NVMdurance, with its unique approach to extending the endurance of flash devices, announces that NVXL will be the first company to market with an SSD incorporating NVMdurance software. NVXL is the developer of a revolutionary storage and compute acceleration platform that will leverage the unique approach by NVMdurance to extend the endurance of flash devices – to create the next generation of flash storage.

The NVXL implementation will use an Altera FPGA, and is as a result of the cooperation between Altera (now part of Intel) and NVMdurance launched at Flash Memory Summit last year.

NVMdurance has a unique endurance-extending technology that delays the wear-out of flash memory enabling it to last many times longer. In this instance NVMdurance software is being used on 3D NAND flash memory.

Today, the global NAND flash market is growing at a CAGR of 10.1% to 2019, with market revenue expected to top US$49 billion by 2019. The SSD market is expected to reach $229 billion by 2022.

Michael Chang, VP of Product Marketing at NVXL, said: “The 3D NAND flash in our new platform will support dramatically higher write endurance using this technology, resulting in longer life, greater reliability, increased flexibility and a lower total cost of ownership.”

“NVXL’s vision is to advance solid state storage technologies and break traditional barriers in the areas of storage reliability, efficiency, capacity and performance. This SSD launch places the company way ahead of the game,” said Pearse Coyle, NVMdurance CEO. “It is the first live market launch of SSDs to include our unique optimization software which greatly extends the intrinsic endurance of flash memory.”

The NVXL platform, along with early versions of the extended endurance modules, will be displayed at the Flash Memory Summit from August 9-11, 2016.

About NVMdurance

NVMdurance was founded in Ireland in 2013 when the ADAPT project was spun out of the National Digital Research Centre in Ireland. The technology is the result of 12 years’ work on Flash memory endurance by Joe Sullivan and Conor Ryan.

Solid State Disks (SSDs) using non-volatile memory are rapidly taking over from hard disks. However SSDs wear out and this is holding back their complete replacement of hard disks. NVMdurance’s work with leading manufacturers has proven to extend the life of SSDs up to twentyfold. NVMdurance has offices in Limerick, Ireland and San Jose, California. www.nvmdurance.com

About NVXL Technology

NVXL is developing a revolutionary storage and compute acceleration platform enabling tomorrow’s applications, deep learning, and machine learning. The technology is built from the ground up to accelerate and scale storage and compute performance. The company’s solutions will be introduced this summer. NVXL has offices in Silicon Valley, California. www.nvxltech.com
